Fortune Telling Cards for having fun while learning English
Instructions
Print out the three pages of Fortune Telling Cards and cut out the 36 individual cards. Be careful to save the explanations for each card. Allow students time to familiarize themselves with any vocabulary, using their dictionaries to check terms they do not know. Another fun variation would be to have students create their own card designs, illustrating each vocabulary word in the deck.
Shuffle the cards three times, cutting the deck each time. Lay out all 36 cards face up on a table, four rows of eight cards each, plus placing two cards on top and two below as shown in this diagram. Correct the cards direction so they can be easily read.

Sample Reading
Because the subject is a male, we use The King #15 as the subject's card (for a woman we would be using The Queen #14). Locating the King in the above pattern, we find above him #3 The House and this foretells success, and suggests a possible engagement or marriage.
Next to The House going clockwise is The Train #34 predicting prospeity (this card is isolated in the pattern, away from any influencing cards, simplifying the interpretation).
Next we see The Rider #12, followed from behind by The Heart #30, since the rider is surrounded by good luck cards this is a very lucky card indeed.
Below the rider is The Bride #35. The subject, our King, is unmarried, so marriage is in the works (though his Queen card is far away in this pattern). Notice how the Bride is surrounded by the good news card The Clover-leaf #25, the surprise card Lightning #32, and The Ring #18 which suggests a rich and happy marriage.
Directly below The King is The Mice #23 this suggests a loss or theft, but since it is near the subject the loss will be recovered.
Continuing clockwise we come to The Sun # 1 bringing more good luck and happiness, as does The Moon #2 which predicts honor and happiness. Overall a very positive reading.
