Have I broken the plateau or simply maintained it? It will take another Kilo for me to feel fully confident but, I can tell you, it is extremely reassuring to have gone down a bit. I suspect that all dieting is a variation on fasting, considering how most seriously overweight people can not function on random 'normal' unregulated eating habits without gaining weight little by little. The Atkins approach simply provides a more accessible alternative plan for Western 'meat & potato' eaters. Maximize the meat and eliminate the potato (& bread, rice, sugar, milk, etc). This is not pleasant but it is simpler, than trying to calculate calories. To tease the taste buds with super small proportions is comparable to giving an alcoholic 'just one' drink. What happens in Atkins is a general boredom with meats and fats that is rectified in volume without the risk of bingeing breaking the diet. One can only eat so much fish, chicken, eggs, or red meat without exhausting the urge to eat. The binge reaction of eating more meat is less practical, less sustainable than carbohydrate binges. Sugar and processed food lack the bulk to satisfy without excess calories, so one can eat chips, or other snacks, well beyond a healthy limit. To do so with protein foods is just not likely. Of course, most fatties are carbohydrate (low fiber - sweet) addicts, and so there is some discomfort and anxiety. Old happy habits are hard to break.
